Australian scientists grow coronavirus in lab
Kathmandu, January 29
Australian scientists became first to replicate the new coronavirus in laboratory conditions in a medical breakthrough that could help speed up the development of a vaccine to combat the deadly virus.
According to the Araratadvertiser, researchers at Melbourne's Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity became the first to recreate the virus outside of China.
As per the news reports, the lab-grown virus was developed from an infected patient and it is expected that the invention will assist with accurate diagnosis of the disease across the world.
Researchers claimed that it will also help assess the effectiveness of trial vaccines.
The Peter Doherty Institute's Virus Identification Laboratory Head Dr Julian Druce claimed that this development will be a "game-changer for diagnosis".
