Cervical cancer is the number one kind of cancer among women in Nepal. The main cause for the cancer topping the list is people not opting for regular consultation with the doctors. According to Dr Anu Bajracharya as the cervical cancer do not give much trouble to the people in the beginning people therefore do not timely visit the doctors as per the doctor.

Irregular menstruation, painful sex, bleeding after sex and foul vaginal discharge are some of the symptoms of cervical cancer.

The cancer is caused by human papilloma virus, the most common sexually transmitted infection. The chances for cervical cancer can be detected even a decade early. An early screening of the cancer helps in prevention of the cancer spread.

Women who smoke, have multiple sex partners, have more children, getting married early and involving in sex from an early age, and those with lower immunity are prone to the infection.

The treatment for cervical cancer is done through surgery. If the cancer has developed to the next stage then radiotherapy or chemotherapy is used for treatment.

Cervical cancer is the fourth most frequent cancer in women with an estimated 570,000 new cases in 2018 representing 6.6% of all female cancers. Approximately 90% of deaths from cervical cancer occurred in low- and middle-income countries.
