Kathmandu, December 24

Miami-Dade County in the U.S. confirmed that 14 cases of dengue fever patients were found this year.

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County also issued a mosquito-borne illness alert on Monday following the confirmation of two Miami-Dade residents suffering from the symptoms related to dengue fever.

According to the DOH-Miami-Dade, the latest cases were locally acquired and are linked to a travel-related case previously reported.

Dengue is spread through mosquito bites through the Aedes mosquitoes which also spread chikungunya and the Zika virus. Fever, headache, eye pain, pain related to muscle, joint or bone, rash, nausea, vomiting and unusual bleeding are the symptoms of dengue.

DOH-Miami-Dade recommended precautions such as draining water from garbage cans, house gutters, buckets, pool covers, coolers, toys, flower pots or any other containers where sprinkler or rainwater has collected.
